Ingredients:

  • 15-20 Long John Silver’s Hushpuppies
  • 1 apple, diced
  • 8 oz sage sausage
  • ¼ teaspoon thyme
  • 3 eggs
  • 1/4 cup parmesan cheese
  • Chopped celery and onion according to your liking (Optional)
  • 1 cup chicken broth

Instructions:

Preheat the Oven:

Heat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

Prepare Hushpuppies:

If you don’t have Long John Silver’s Hushpuppies ready, go online and order them well in advance. Fresh hushpuppies are not needed. Roughly chop or crumble hushpuppies into bitesize pieces.

Cook Sausage:

In a skillet over medium heat, cook the sage sausage until browned and cooked through. Break it into crumbles as it cooks. Drain excess fat if necessary. Once cooled and drained place in bowl with hushpuppies

Prepare Vegetables (Optional):

If using celery and onion, chop it into small pieces. This step adds extra flavor and color to the stuffing.

Prepare Apple:

Dice apples into small squares. The sage sausage plays well with the sweetness of the apples, along with a subtle texture for interest.

Mix Ingredients:

In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked sausage (and vegetables if used), diced apple, thyme, eggs, parmesan cheese, and the Long John Silver’s Hushpuppies. Break up the hushpuppies into smaller pieces as you mix.

Add Chicken Broth:

Pour in the chicken broth gradually while mixing the ingredients. The mixture should be moist but not overly soggy. Adjust the amount of broth as needed.

Transfer to Baking Dish:

Grease a baking dish and transfer the stuffing mixture into it, spreading it out evenly.

Bake:

Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 45-50 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the stuffing is cooked through.

Serve:

Once done, remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving.

Enjoy your delicious Hushpuppy Stuffing!
